Let me just say, I especially enjoyed our last class. The whole topic of "Mary" was further clarified for me, kudos to everyone who gave their own input and understanding, I plan to take some time this week and further reflect because it was one aspect of my religion that I did not fully understand.

Thanks Pauline. I am so glad that things are being clarified for you. It means that this is where you need to be now. As time goes on by the grace of God we will all deepen our understanding and faith.

Scripture, the Bible, God's inspired word needs to be understood in the context of salvation and faith. God's self-revelation to humankind. With the fall of Adam and Eve (Genesis 3:1-13) God initiates the course of salvation (Gen 3:15 & Rev. 12:17), with the woman being integral to salvation. That woman is embodied in Mary the Mother of Jesus.
DeleteJesus' first sign (John 2:1-12) the Wedding at Cana. Mary is present and she intercedes asking Jesus to do something, because the wine has run out. Mother Mary leads us to Jesus, not to herself.
It is the average person who says, Catholics pray to Mary, pray to a statue. Mary of herself has not miraculous power, but she takes the prayer of our heart to Jesus. And then she says, do whatever Jesus tells you.
Mary as a disciple of Jesus, but a senior one because she is the mother of Jesus is present with the other other disciples praying (Acts 1:14)
St. Paul told the Corinthians, "Now you are the body of Christ and individual members of it." (2 Corinthians 12:27) Being members of Christ's Body, no one can separate us from Christ! He is the Head of our Church.
If you and I as individual members of His Body can be intercessors for the Church with Him and through Him, then what about Mary, the Mother of God? She always obeyed the Will of God till her life ended on earth and she took her rightful place as Queen of Heaven. If God can give us mere human beings the honour of interceding for each other to Him, will God not give Mother Mary, who Jesus gifted to us as our Mother, the greatest honour to be the most powerful Intercessor for each of us?
Mary has a special place in salvation history. Because God chose Mary to be the Mother of his Son, she was set apart for generations to come. Magnificat (Luke 1:46-55). Simeon's prophecy (Luke 2:33-35)
